Treatment for Razor Bumps in Nottingham
Shaving is part of a daily routine for most people but it can result in razor bumps. These bumps have the look and feel of spots or pimples but are actually due to ingrown hairs that have developed as a result of shaving. They can appear anywhere on the body but are of particular concern if they are on continual display such as the face and neck. There is a suitable treatment for Pseudofollicullitis Barbae (PFB) which minimises the appearance of these blemishes as well as hair growth in the area.
During the shaving process, the hair is cut back to the skin and is sometimes forced under. The hair is then able to curl within the follicle rather than grow outwards. This results in swelling and inflammation around the follicle. If the condition occurs over an extended period of time, the skin responds by producing unsightly dark spots that may cause itching in the area. In some cases it’s possible for the ‘bumps’ to become infected.
This is especially problematic for some men who have naturally coarse or tightly curling thick hair. Although any one can be susceptible to developing razor bumps it is more common in people from African, Caribbean and Mediterranean backgrounds due to the nature of their hair.
The key to controlling PFB is to minimise the re-entry of hair back in to the skin or prevent hair growth all together. We offer an Ellipse Laser IPL treatment program using a specialised adapter for darker skin tones. The program offers 3 treatments as well as take-home after care products to assist the process.
If left untreated, razor bumps can become infected and even lead to permanent discolouration as well as keloid scarring. If you have a skin condition that is associated with PFB then please give us a call for a free consultation.
