Toenail Fungus Treatments in Nottingham & London
Onychomycosis or fungal nail infections are estimated to affect up to 30% of people in the UK across their lifetime, slowly developing to cause discoloured, thickened and misshapen nails on either the hands or feet which in turn can affect confidence and over time cause discomfort. Where fungal nail infections affect the toenails, this can even often lead to difficulty wearing certain styles of shoe which is where this often small condition can result in bigger and more severe consequences.
There is no one person more at risk to developing a fungal nail infection, which can often be caused by several factors. Most fungal nail infections are caused by the dermatophyte fungi, which is also the root of athletes’ foot problems which affect the skin around the toes and can also spread to the toe nails to cause the fungus growth.
Some forms of onychomycosis can also be catalysed through the slight damage or cracking of the nail which can be compromised to exposure of fungal spores from shoes, changing rooms or even swimming pools which can establish the infection. This is why those who wear tight footwear, moist socks or walk barefoot are more prone to picking up the fungal nail infection.
- Thickened nails
- Discoloured nail tips or beds (look out for yellowing or greening)
- Pain or discomfort when wearing certain styles of shoe
Using our revolutionary laser fungal treatment, Q Switched ND:YAG which uses an infrared laser which passes through the nail, our practitioners at Luxe Skin Clinic can generate an up to 90% success rate in killing the parasite fungi that causes the infection, while stimulating the immune system to successfully restore the nail back to its former appearance through growth stimulation.
The fungal nail treatment is usually carried out through a course of applications completed 3 to 4 times, 7 days apart, being virtually pain free this leaves you to get on with normal day-to-day activities. Depending on the condition of your nail or level of infection, treatment will take around 15 – 20 minutes through a discretionary and individually tailored treatment plan in accordance with your practitioner at our cosmetic clinic.
After the fungal nail treatment, patients may experience some redness up to 48 hours following treatment, with successful effects usually seen within just 6 weeks and the full effect between 6 – 12 months while new skin tissues and a nail develops.
