Non-Surgical Aesthetics Blog
I picked my work experience at the Luxe Private Clinic because I have recently gained interest in image. I find it fascinating to see different people’s views on “the perfect image” and found that helping people feel comfortable within their skin also made me feel good about myself...
Monday was the first day of my work experience. Viewing the inside of the clinic was exciting; everything was modern, orderly and fancy. The first job assigned was listing and counting stock where I was joined by Lucy who is the clinical assistant. Counting stock gave me the opportunity to learn about what equipment they use and provide as a clinic. After doing this we transferred all the information onto excel by creating a table- doing this task meant I had to use my initiative when coming across problems as I couldn’t ask for my teachers help when unsure.
The last task of the day was sorting all of the clinic’s receipts in date order in a file. I soon came to realisation that this process was called filing. I learnt this had to be done in a business environment in order to keep organised, systematic and efficient. It also helps staff who should be able to access records to do so easily. This gave me an insight of what it is like working in a working environment as a clinical assistant.
All members of staff at the clinic helped me feel comfortable as they welcomed me in and treated me as though I was one of them. I am Thankful that Reuben and Teresa directed me so I wasn’t left completely clueless!
On the second day it was straight to work! In the morning I worked with Deepali, who is the non-surgical aesthetic therapist, I watched her carry out a skin tightening aesthetic procedure on a thermotherapy laser machine. Previously I thought it only worked for skin tightening, however I learnt this procedure also improved many other aspects: the appearance of wrinkles; texture of skin and circumference reduction. Deepali explained that the application of the heat causes the skin to contract leading to skin tightness. During this treatment I helped Deepali by holding the baby oil which was used to reduce burn and redness.
I was shown a variety of books about the different things Deepali had studied. For example, I read through a hand- fixed book on hair removal treatments; found out from the book that I’m Skin type 6 and that there are three layers to the skin. Deepali gave me helpful advice on different products I could try out for a smoother face and told me how to protect my face in different weathers.
Deepali is very caring and a lovely person to work with she said she “enjoys when patients get good results and feel more confident”. By the end of the procedure the client smiled and straight away I could physically see the mental effects of the procedure.
On day 3 I had a quick look at Deepali working with one of her patients who was getting a lipo- freeze. This is where the machine sucks and freezes an area of the skin and the fat cannot survive under such cold temperatures leading to the fat cells to die out. Before today I have never seen this been done so it was really interesting to see.
