As Britons there is no avoiding cold weather sadly it comes with the territory. Summer has been and gone and what lies ahead is the wind, rain and cold. Cold temperatures will slowly break down the outer layers of skin and reducing their moisture. So what can you do to make sure your skin doesn’t suffer from these harsher weather conditions?
Stay covered up.
Chances are before you head outside when it’s cold you’re already thinking about finding your scarf, hat and gloves just to stay warm. By covering your skin you are also protecting it from cold harsh winds that can dry out your skin faster than you may think.
A good lip balm can stop your lips from drying out. Always look for one with a high SPF factor or with a medicated serum to heal chapped lips.
Turn down central heating
We know that it seems impossible especially when it is so cold outside but central heating and electric heaters both reduce moisture in the air creating a dry environment inside your home. It could be worth turning the heating down lower or moisturising more regularly especially after a shower or bath.
You may need to change your moisturiser during the colder months to make up for the unforgiving winds. An oil based moisturiser may be better for winter as well as oil and cream based cleansers for washing with as they will add moisture to your skin while you’re washing.
Don’t forget to take care of your hair during the colder months, harsh winds and dry heating environments can make your hair look just as tired and dry as your skin. Consider purchasing a deep nourishing hair conditioner and avoid overuse of heated styling items.
